With the new mid slot scanning mods you could argue it's not worth it to take them to 5, but as what was said earlier, if you scan a lot or use an alt that does it. Why not.

Navy vexor is a great ship for ded sites, i call it the poor mans ishtar. Full flight of sentrys and you can easily get 500+dps with curators and over 600+ with gardes, just depends on your playstyle. Get resists specific to what you are clearing ...

I always use 5 scanner probes myself aswell, but seeing some people only scan with 4 i wonder if it makes a large difference. When i get off work ill try playing around with 4. But 5 always did the trick for me, even for the super rare drug site...
